Our primary goal is to
promote, uplift, improve, educate, elevate St. Lucia and St. Lucians
worldwide while still operating in union with our sister island
organizations as One Caribbean. We strive to be more visible, more
productive, more informative, more viable, more dominant, more
prominent in working towards educating others about our St. Lucia - its
culture, its history, its people, its beauty. Working towards an
even better St. Lucia - improving education, better living, better
health programs, better economy and maintaining St. Lucia as, SIMPLY
BEAUTIFUL - through constant promotion and celebration of our island gem.
St. Lucia DC
Association Inc also known as MDDCVA SLA, was established in the 1980's
with some past presidents including Mr. Lee Sealy who was the first
President of the association, Mr. Albert Preville, Eric Walcott and Ms. Gisel Regis who is currently the Secretary of the Union of
St. Lucia Overseas Associations. Over the past few years the
association has been revamped and has become one of the most
productive, vibrant and visible Caribbean organizations in the
Washington, DC metro area:
-
Through promoting our
St. Lucian culture with our Annual Independence day activities, Journee
Kweyol celebration and our recent first annual St. Lucia jazz launch.
-
Uplifting and helping
our fellow St. Lucians at home by our bed sheet drive for the
hospitals, clothing drive for the Red Cross, book drive for the schools
and libraries, fundraisers for the Orphanage.
-
Broadening our horizons
right here in the DC area with our HIV/AIDS counseling and testing
workshops and forums.
-
Mixing, mingling and
networking at our annual functions such as Mother's and Father's day
celebrations, games day and bus trips.
-
Receiving sponsorship
and endorsements from major companies such as Air Jamaica and BET.
All these events have
made us a prominent force in the DC metro area within our Caribbean
community.
The association
continues to expand in various areas with our recent establishment as a
non profit organization, rise in membership, increase in activities and
ability to really make a difference. We continue to serve as a vehicle
to disseminate information on many issues relating to St. Lucia and the
Caribbean - social, regional, national and entertainment as well.
No
annual dues but donations and sponsorships are always welcome
